Compendium

here are

the Names of the Heroes

of the

Island of the Mighty:

5. Tristan son of Tallwych

( Three men who bear three poetic gifts

the three fine old Frivolous Bards:

Arthur of stout shield and Trystan,

and Lywarch, lord of address in song.)

( Goto'r Glyn )

Three Enchanter Knights are in Arthur's Court:

Menw son of Teirgwaedd,

and Trystan son of Tallwch,

and Cei son of Kynyr of the Fair Beard;

since they can change themselves into any form

 they  wish when they are hard pressed

and therefore no one can overcome them.

Three Surpassing Bonds of Love which

Three Men in the time of Arthur

cast upon the Three Fairest, most lovable,

and most Talked-of Maidens who are in the

Island at this time:

That which Trystan cast upon

Essylt daughter of Culfanawyd, Pillar of Britain;

that which Cynon son of Clydno Eiddyn cast upon

Morfudd daughter of Urien Rheged;

That which Caradoc Strong Arm cast upon

Tegau Gold-Breast daughter of Nudd Generous Hand,

King of the North.

Three Stubborn Men:

Eiddilig the Dwarf,

and Gwair of Great Valour,

and Trystan.

Three Enemy-Subduers of the Island of Britain:

Rahawd son of Morgant,

and Dalldaf son of Cunyn Cof,

and Trystan sisters-son to March.

Three Powerful Swineherds of the Island of Britain:

one is Trystan son of Tallwch,

tending the swine of March son of Meirchion,

while the swineherd goes with a message to Essylt.

Arthur and March and Cei and Bedwyr were there, all four,

but they do not succeed in getting so much as one pigling

-neither by force, nor by deception, nor by stealth.

Three Battle-Diademed Men in the Island of Britain:

Trystan son of Tallwych,

and Huaill son of Caw

and Cei son of Cynyr of the Fair Beard.

and one is Diademed above the three of them,

that is Bedwyr son of Bedrawc.

also known as Sir Tristan, Tristram, Drustan, Drwst Ironfist.
