All the local dogs had gathered there to bark

at sone uncanny presence,

but none of the local people dared

to go and find the cause of the trouble.

one day Urien of Rheged passed by

and the Prince bravely went to investigate.

All he found was a lone woman washing.

The dogs stopped barking,

and struck by her beauty, he made love to her.

She did not protest.

She told him she was the daughter of

the King of Annfwyn, the Otherworld.

And that it was her destiny to wash

at the Ford until she had a son by a Christian.

She asked him to return after a year

when she would give him his son.

So he returned at the appointed time

and was presented with a son, Owain

and his twin, a daughter, Morfudd.

also known as Sir Yvain, Owaine, Owein.
