the Hawk of the Plain.

Eldest son of King Lot of Lothian,

by Margause, Witch-Queen of Cornwall.

 

Gwalchmei, sisters son to Arthur,

Heir to the Kings of the North,

the most courteous man to Strangers and Guests

 in Arthur's Court.

 

Gwalchmei the Well Endowed,

his Prowess in Battle and Bed

Famous in Song,

the Champion of the Goddess,

Knight of Holly,

Knight of the Pentacle.

 

Three Golden Tongued Knights are in Arthur's Court:

of most renown is

Gwalchmei son of Llew son of Cynvarch,

and obtains it, either willingly or unwillingly.

 

He is the First of the

He is one of the Four Battle Champions

of the Island of the Mighty:

Gwalchmei, sister's son to Arthur,

Lancelot of the Lake,

Cador of Cornwall and

Trystan of Llyonesse.

 

one of the Three Bestowed Horses

of the Island of Britain is

Gingaled, Slender-Hard, steed of Gwalchmei,

Faerie steed, lightly prancing,

high leaping, hooves and teeth

adding to his ferocity.

In battle he moves through a blood-red mist,

Blood whipped by the wind,

winds amok in his brails,

the Battle Madness possesses him

as Death rides by his side.

Gwalchmei, son of Gwyar,

he never returns without fulfilling his quest,

he is moreover the best walker and rider,

and is Arthur's Sisters-Son, and his cousin as well.

 

The grave of Gwalchmei is in Peryddon

as a reproach to all men.
